Telegraph Items

Telegraph Items These are telegraph sounders which were designed to be placed on your operating desk. The elevation of the sounder would make it sound louder. I believe these were used on a railroad as they both have coal dust on them. Also they came from Western New York.

Telegraph Sounder - This is a quality sounder. Originally the sounder mechanism was used bare sitting on the table.
Telegraph Sounder - These sounders operated on a one wire circuit originally. The circuit had battery power on it and required the operators to have their own earth ground legs. As the Telegraph Operator operated his telegraph key it caused the sounder to click in long or short clicks and with combinations of this formed letters and words. When the operator had finished he would install his "lock" which would cause the battery power to go through his station and allow other locations to send code.
