Pre 1930 Radios

1926 Radio and a 1921 Western Electric Amplifier

1926 Radiola electric radio - This Radiola was the first to have a 115 volt power supply that could be plugged into a regular electric outlet. This was quite an improvement over the battery supplied sets with all the extra work and expense to have charged batteries. On the top of the radio is a Radiola R100a speaker also made in 1926.
1921 Western Electric Loudspeaker -This is a Western Electric 1921 horn speaker with a Western Electric 7a amplifier. This loudspeaker setup would be connected to a headset connection on a radio. This would enable a room full of people to hear the broadcast. The amplifier is shown with WE 216 tennis ball shaped tubes.
